Keep this at level 1 until later due to it's fairly poor scaling.
Try and max this skill out by 7. Why? Because it has a ridiculous cooldown, a very small mana cost, and scales very well percentage-wise, and does the highest potential damage of all of his non-ult skills when paired up with magic damage. (Also has an insane range and gives vision for rosh checks).
Get this at level 1. It is a very strong level one skill for you and your team. Try and max this out second since the scaling is pretty good and can be paired up with vortex spam
Use this whenever you can. You can clear large creepwaves if needed (NOTE: this only kills range creeps from full hp and wont apply the chill effect to them. Use this in teamfights for a strong advantage and to counter regen heros. Can also be used for hero snipes ;)

Try and upgrade the courier by the 3:00 minute mark
A wand is always great, especially to allow AA to constantly spam his vortexes

A great item for this hero. Provides sustainability and a good mana pool when needed, also makes up for the chilling touch attack speed reduction.
A must have on AA, try and build this ASAP if you are not building a mek, (if you are, go this after), the 17 second duration combo'ed with your vortex's make you a beast in early-mid-late game fights
Great for skill-dodges, provides extra m/s and give you strong mana regen. A great utility item, you can also combo this with cold feet procs and your ultimate
