Starting

A consumable for sustained HP regen in the laning stage. Helps you trade your HP with enemy heroes and heal back up without having to go to fountain. Provides double HP regen when eating a tree planted using an Iron Branch.
Start with it if you expect a high frequency of spells from enemy heroes on the lane.
The most cost efficient stats item in Dota 2. Useful in the laning stage to have an HP, mana, and damage advantage against enemy heroes. Can be used together with a Tango for double HP regen.

Early Game

An early game pick up that helps you get through the laning stage with more stats. The armor improves your tankiness while the attack speed lets you farm much faster towards your first core item.
A core Boots of Speed upgrade to improve your mobility and damage output with attack speed and stats to farm much faster and have more DPS with Tree Grab. Also lets you conserve mana through stats toggling. The strength toggle also provides slow resistance, status resistance, and negates some of the attack speed slow from your ultimate.
Start with Magic Stick if you expect high frequency of spells from enemy heroes on the lane.

Mid Game

A core item to improve your tankiness with HP pool while significantly increasing your damage output and farming speed. Gives you massive burst damage with a double hit during Tree Grab. The strength gain also provides slow resistance, status resistance, and negates some of the attack speed slow from your ultimate. Gets upgraded to Harpoon later in the game.
A core item to improve your damage output and mobility through invisibility to find specific targets and burst them down quickly with your right clicks and spell combo.
A mid game pick up to increase your tankiness and mobility, as well as output more damage with Tree right clicks from the added attack speed. The strength gain also provides slow resistance, status resistance, and negates some of the attack speed slow from your ultimate. The status resistance also makes it harder for enemy heroes to kite you with disables.
A core item to avoid most disables and silences on the enemy team to get off your spell combo and hit freely in fights. The strength gain also provides slow resistance, status resistance, and negates some of the attack speed slow from your ultimate. Also improves your right click damage and tankiness through HP pool and magic resistance.
A core damage item to burst down enemy heroes with Critical Strike on your right clicks and Tree Volley. Has great synergy with Tree Grab cleave to do your entire right click damage to units around your target. Also works well with Aghanim`s Scepter to massively increase your damage output with Tree Volley.

Late Game

An upgrade for Echo Sabre to close the gap on an enemy hero and follow up with your lockdown and right click damage to burst them down. Also lets you latch onto trees to get out of fights or move closer to an enemy you want to catch.
A core item that gives you tankiness and HP sustain through lifesteal and lets you turn the fight from low health during Tree Grab. Also lets you dispel yourself when in trouble.
A late game aura item that boosts your physical damage against enemy heroes and buildings while tanking up with armor to reduce the enemy physical damage. Improves the potential of running at towers as well as Roshan with minus armor. Also gives you attack speed to have more DPS with Tree Grab.
A late game mobility item for extra burst and chase potential with movement and attack speed. A great option to replace Boots when running out of item slots.

Situational

A situational farming item to scale towards the late game with items. Also improves your attack speed to farm much faster and have more DPS with Tree Grab.
An upgrade for Shadow Blade primarily for the break effect against passive spells on enemy heroes. Also improves your damage output and mobility through invisibility to find kills on the map.
A situational mobility item to instantly get on top of the back line enemy heroes and kill them with your spell combo and Tree Grab hits. Also lets you save allies by Blinking in and Tossing them away to safety.
Provides a Basic Dispel and the ability to push and farm waves safely with Illusions, so you don`t have to show on their minimap and let your opponents know exactly where you are.
A powerful defensive tool to block single target disables and debuffs. Also provides effective damage through stats for universal heroes.
A late game pick up to signifcantly improve your AoE damage output and burst down pretty much any hero in the game from long range. Also lets you instantly clear creep waves. Look to stand in a clump of trees when using Tree Volley. Has great synergy with Daedalus to proc Critical Strike on the thrown trees.
A follow up to Aghanim`s Scepter to do more damage on the landing of Tossed enemies, as well as increase the damage of thrown trees while also letting them slow both movement and attack speed. This mechanic works on both Tree Throw and Tree Volley.
A cheaper alternative to Daedalus to add magic damage and critical strike to your Tree Grab right clicks to do massive AoE damage. Works well against high armor heroes on the enemy team. Also has great synergy with Aghanim`s Scepter to do massive AoE damage with Tree Volley.
A right click damage item to pierce evasion and miss chance on enemy heroes.
Provides healing, sustain and lifesteal reduction to your attacks, while providing a massive boost to your HP pool and overall stats. Effective against ranged heroes or heavy healing lineups.
A unique item to dispel enemy heroes and take off most buffs from spells and items that prevent you from right-clicking them freely.
Allows you to Silence an enemy and do additional damage to them with each attack for it`s duration. Effective when combined with a high frequency of attacks and versus highly mobile heroes.
Provides evasion and additional scaling to your base + agility attack speed. Effective versus heroes that rely on attacks too much or if you have a high base attack speed and agility gain.
A late game pick up for a massive surge of attack speed to increase your DPS with Tree Grab.
